Overview
ShameOnU is an advertisement campaign created to help universities spread the message of a safe, hate-free environment for Black students without targeting those who stand up for their rights. This is speculative work made during the 2020 Indoor Recess advertisement pitch competition where the client was Color of Change.

challenges
The biggest challenge during this competition was meeting virtually with every team member as well as the mentors due to conflicting schedules and time zones. I didn’t have much experience with advertising prior to this but that didn’t stop me from entering the competition–Forget getting my feet wet, I went straight for diving into the deep end.
solution
Our plan to discourage universities from hate crimes was a website, shameonu.com, that listed universities as being shameful for their actions. Moreover, students could purchase stickers to place over their university jackets to censor their school in a silent protest. The illustrations I designed would be used as posters and Instagram ads to spread the word about the website. gardening table of contents, that’s the section they are currently reading while the cooking section would be flipped. This design also allows for it to be printed for either side while keeping consistency.

Learning Outcome
I learned about collaboration and teamwork in a virtual setting. The fast-paced environment pushed me out of my comfort zone where I achieved more than I thought I could; I learned a lot about myself. There was so much I learned about advertising not only from my peers but from the mentors who helped with any questions.
